Sci-Fi subjects give boundless imagination. It's time to boost creativity with crazy ideas! 'Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind' is an iconic animation by Miyazaki Hayao in the 1980s. The big bug, Ohmu, changes the eye color with its emotion. Let's simulate it with the LED modules.
Scale model : The Valley Of The Wind Nausicaä with Ohmu
LED modules : LM-54B (Blue) x 7
: LM-54R (Red) x 7
01 Eyes
There are a total of 14 eyes in the Ohmu. Drill 1.5 mm holes in each eye and stretch the LED out. Fix the emission angle at the right angle to the eye surface.
Use superglue and masking tape to fix the extension wires on the back side. Organize them well before mounting the inductor bodies.
Use a piece of plastic sheet to build a platform and mount all 14 inductor bodies on it. They are still the engineer samples, which are slightly different than the production ones.
A test before final assembly of eye covers.
Spray paint the eye cover a semi-transparent white color.
02 Summary
Ohmu has a large compartment to load all 14 inductor bodies, so there is no problem to find the space at all. To express both the calm and angry emotions as represented in the animation, I chose to install 7 blue LED modules on the left and 7 red LED modules on the right. (The fact is that I don't have enough engineer samples. :D )
We spray paint a milky color onto the eye cover to make the light evenly diffused. On the other hand, it was noted that the red LED modules are a little dimmer than the blue LED modules, due to its technical specifications.
I hope this demo will help and give you some inspiration. There are no fixed rules for installing the LED module. Creativity is always the key. Have fun and happy modeling!
